Susan McCormac

Susan Miyagi McCormac is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of JapanCulture•NYC, an English-language website launched in 2011 to introduce New Yorkers to Japanese culture and to promote Japanese-related events.

A 1990 graduate of the University of North Carolina with a degree in communications, she has built a career in sports television that has taken her to Tokyo to cover the 2004 New York Yankees opening series and the last three World Baseball Classics. Her career in baseball merged with her community involvement in 2022, when the Japanese Consulate tapped her to moderate a panel celebrating the 150th anniversary of baseball’s introduction to Japan, featuring Yomiuri Giants and New York Yankees legend Hideki Matsui. Since then, she has contributed two chapters to Robert K. Fitts’s book Nichibei Yakyu: US Tours of Japan, 1960-2019 (Volume 2) and has moderated a panel discussion and Q&A session with Fitts following the screening of the documentary Baseball Behind Barbed Wire.

In addition to serving on JETAANY’s Board of Directors, Susan is a Vice President of the Japanese American Association of New York and co-chairs the Communications Committee of the U.S.-Japan Council’s New York Region. The Japanese government selected her as a member of the 2024 Japanese American Leadership Delegation, honoring her years of dedication to the community.

Susan lives in Brooklyn with her cat, Mugi, and enjoys frequent trips to Daiso at Japan Village.
