Book Club: CONFESSIONS OF A MASK (Tues, 10/25)

One of the many cover images for Confessions of a Mask.

Date: Tues., Oct. 25, 2022

Time: 7:00-8:30 pm EDT

Details: Join us in October for a classic: Yukio Mishima's acclaimed Confessions of a Mask. First published in Japan in 1949, it tells the story of Kochan, a young man coming to terms with his homosexuality in traditional Japanese society. If you are not familiar with the author, Yukio Mishima (1925-1970) was a significant cultural figure in postwar Japan. A prolific novelist, poet, and dramatist, his work helped establish Japanese literature in the West. During his lifetime, Mishima courted controversy for his political views. In 1970, following a failed coup d'etat, Mishima publicly committed seppuku, ritual suicide by disembowelment.

NOTE: Our discussion of Lonely Castle in the Mirror has been delayed until further notice to accommodate the ever-changing U.S. publishing date.
