Clean Up for Sarah

Date: Saturday, June 19th

Time: Noon to 2:00PM

**Optional picnic at 10:30AM: If you want to bring food and have a picnic in beautiful Hermon A. MacNeil Park, come early. We’ll be there from 10:30 AM.

Location: Hermon A. MacNeil Park, College Point, Queens (https://www.google.com/maps/@40.7929705,-73.8515725,17.75z). Look for the playground, where the group will be setting up.

Directions: You can take the 7 Train to Main Street Flushing, then transfer to the NORTHBOUND #25 bus (the stop is on Main just south of Roosevelt Av., east side by the Duane Reade), which will drop you by the park at its last stop.

Details: Sarah Auffret was a Tokushima JET who went on to contribute to the effort to clear plastic waste from the world’s oceans, especially in the arctic. She was lost in the 2019 Ethiopian Airlines crash while on her way to a UN conference in Nairobi. We will be taking part in the annual Clean Up for Sarah event, held every year around her birthday on June 16th.

Coastal Preservation Network will be hosting the cleanup and will provide gloves, bags, and tools. Please bring your own water and food. We will be cleaning up the shoreline, so sturdy shoes or boots are recommended, as we’ll be walking over rocks, sand, and maybe, if you’re really enthusiastic, muck. Don’t forget your sunscreen. Bug spray optional (but probably not necessary).
