Debbie Walter
Coordinator
Hokkaido, 2014-19
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Debbie studied Japanese language and literature at the University of Pittsburgh before joining the JET Program as a Hokkaido ALT from 2014-2019. While in Japan, she spent 3 years on the council of the Hokkaido AJET chapter, where she coordinated various professional development meetings, social events, and volunteer opportunities for her fellow Hokkaido JETs. She also volunteered in her final year as a Block Advisor, where she assisted the Hokkaido PA by acting as a mediator and more localized source of information and support for the JETs in her region. While in Japan, Debbie developed a wide assortment of hobbies, including running, yosakoi dance, bouldering, hiking, onsening, knitting, and cooking.
After completing her time on JET, Debbie moved back to Pittsburgh briefly, before coming to NYC and taking up her current role as an Administrative Assistant at the Permanent Mission of Japan to the UN. Nowadays, you can find her doing virtually all of the same hobbies, with the interesting addition of Aerial Circus Arts. She is excited to have the opportunity to work with the JETAANY team, and she looks forward to helping to bring to the JETAANY community a plethora of fun and interesting events for the coming year.
