The Consulate General of Japan in New York is hiring. More specifically, The Japan Information Center is looking to fill a 1-year contract position with flexible hours and scheduling.
The application window is very small with a deadline of April 10th. This is an ideal position for any former JETs still in the transition period or are attending school and need additional income.

The Japan Information Center at the Consulate General of New York is currently seeking to fill a position with someone who can assist with the public relation works. This is a YEARLY CONTRACTED position that will run from May 1, 2019 until end of March 2020. Working hours: Mon-Fri, 20~35 hours per week flexible schedule.

We are looking for one person who can help us with the following tasks:
Assist consulate staff with Japan related social media posting and outreach activities to schools, universities and other educational organizations. Internet search for Japan related events/articles for SNS re-post. Creation of presentation material using Microsoft Power Point. Data gathering for said presentation material. (If possible)Translation of Japan-related news articles from English to Japanese. Schedule meetings and appointments. Taking calls and responding e-mails. Various administrative duties. Assist consulate staff with various tasks as deemed necessary.
Strong writing/communication skills. Knowledgeable for Social Media platforms(Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.) At least two years of college education. MUST be US citizen, permanent resident. Native-level English
Preferred experiences and skills:
Experience with public relations or event planning. Knowledge on Japanese culture and/or work culture. Some Japanese language ability. Prior work experience in Japanese-related organization.
During the course of your duties working at the Consulate General of New York you will be exposed to and asked to handle Confidential Information, as such we require that you agree to and sign our Confidentially Agreement before you may begin employment at our office. Ideally, we are looking for candidates who live in New York City or who can easily commute to our location on Park Ave, even in the event of heavy snow or other inclement weather. All the costs and logistics associated with commuting to and from our office are your responsibilities.
