(3/10 & 3/11) Volunteer Events Commemorating 3.11

In commemoration of 3.11, please join Consulate General of Japan in New York, JAANY (The Japanese American Association of New York), JETAANY, and other Japanese and Japanese-American organizations in three separate volunteer events. As members of the Japan-related community, we will be serving New Yorkers in need, in appreciation of the great support this city has given to Tohoku, and in honor of those lost in the region 8 years ago and to those who are still recovering.

1. Origami Making: For families, on Sunday, March 10, we’ll be making origami again (as we did last September 11) at the home of a JAA Vice President to give away at Food Bank during dinner service or to decorate the dining area on 3.11.

When: Sunday, March 10 at 2-4pm
Where: Private home in Manhattan (address will be provided to volunteers who RSVP)
What: We’ll be making paper cranes to give away and to string up into trees to decorate the community kitchen at Food Bank.

Meal packing: This year, MUFG will play a major role in our March 11 volunteering effort and they have kindly offered their office space for a meal-packing event on the morning of Monday, March 11. Organized in partnership with Rise Against Hunger (an MUFG Union Bank Foundation grantee), the packed meals will be sent later on to those in need around the world.
