Origami Workshop(Canceled!)

Please note: This event has unfortunately been canceled. When: Saturday, April 24th from 3:00 – 4:30 pm Where: Kinokuniya Bookstore (1073 Avenue of the Americas, New York) Cost: $15 (includes workshop fee and all materials) Payment deadline: April 17, 2010 Origami is the traditional Japanese art of paper folding (Oru meaning “folding” and kami meaning “paper”).The goal of this art is to create a representation of an object using geometric folds and crease patterns preferably without gluing or cutting the paper, and using only one piece of paper.     The School Caravan Program, sponsored by the Japan Information Center of the Consulate General of Japan in New York provides speakers on all aspects of Japan to elementary, junior high and high school students. The goal of the program is to increase students’ knowledge of and interest in Japan. We are looking for former JET participants to assist us in our effort to present Japanese culture to students of all ages and background, drawing upon the experiences in Japan. This would be a volunteer (unpaid) position. The school visits take place in the daytime and presentations are made at schools within our jurisdiction. Dimsum are delicious Chinese hors d’oeuvres usually eaten for brunch and Flushing has some of the best in the country (some even say it’s even better than Chinatown). If you’ve never been, it is definitely a quintessential cultural experience as servers wheel around carts full of these tasty delights. Dimsum come in many varieties: from steamed to deep fried, seafood to vegetable and just about everything in between.
