About JETAANYThe Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program Alumni Association of New York (JETAANY) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serving over 2,000 members in the tri-state area. JET Alumni have all lived and worked in Japan as English teachers in the Japanese Public School System. JETAANY’s mission is to assist returning JETs with acclimating to life and work in New York, foster education and understanding of Japanese culture and strengthen the ties between JET alumni and the Japanese community. We do this through a wide variety of social, cultural, professional and athletic events throughout the year.

Posted on October 29, 2007 | No CommentsA former JET Program participant from Minnesota was recently honored with a prestigious comic book grant. Lars Martinson, 30, was an ALT in Fukuoka-ken from 2003 to 2006. He is currently drawing a four-part graphic novel entitled “Tonoharu” based on his experiences in the JET Program. The first part of this graphic novel has been recognized with a grant from the Xeric Foundation. The Xeric Foundation was established to promote comic book self-publishing, and has bestowed grants totaling in excess of $1,750,000 since its inception. It was founded by Peter Laird, co-creator of the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”, which itself was originally a self-published comic book.
