        <description><![CDATA[The Donald Keene Center of Japanese Culture at Columbia University invites applications for the post of Assistant Director. This full-time non-instructional position offers a unique career opportunity. The Keene Center, founded in 1986, supports the study of diverse aspects of Japanese
culture at Columbia University by organizing lectures, workshops, conferences, film screenings, exhibitions, performances, and other events throughout the year. It also hosts visiting scholars, administers fellowship competitions and prize programs, and collaborates with other academic departments and organizations across campus. At the same time, the Keene Center maintains an active presence on New York\'s broader cultural scene, coordinating its activities with academic and non-academic institutions throughout the city, as well as nationwide and abroad.

The Assistant Director is the senior administrator of the Keene Center. He/she is supervised by the Center\'s faculty director, works closely with Columbia\'s Japan studies faculty, and supervises a research associate and part-time staff.  As a full-time officer of the University, the Assistant Director is entitled to comprehensive employment benefits as well as tuition
exemption. Among his/her responsibilities are fundraising and representing the Keene Center at national meetings, which require periodic travel to Japan and elsewhere.

Cultural sensitivity, ability to exercise tact and discretion with U.S. and international faculty, business and government leaders.   
Master\'s degree (or its equivalent) strongly desired, preferably in Economics, International Affairs, International Business, Japanese or East Asian Studies.

        <description><![CDATA[Chef Tadashi Ono of Matsuri restaurant and I are writing a cookbook for the Ten Speed Press, a major publisher, about Japanese hotpots. The book will be more than just nabe recipes; we aim to introduce Japanese eating culture and regional cooking to an American audience.

 

We need a part-time researcher who’s smart, curious, responsible, passionate about Japanese cooking, and fluent in both Japanese and English. Journalism experience isn’t necessary, but prior research work is a plus. We estimate researching will take about 5 to 10 hours per week working from home, from now until January.

•	Cognizant of on-hand and in-transit finished goods inventory and departmental inventory plan.  Provides instruction regarding part flow and material movement requests to responsible parties when required.
•	Monitors customer demand for assigned finished goods.  Analyzes demand to assure quality, assists internal departments to resolve demand related problems both internally and externally.
•	Manages daily activities of overseas finished goods production; works with overseas partners to quickly resolve problems that arise.
•	Updates, controls and internally disseminates finished good design level change information.

Position Requirements:

English/Japanese reading, typing and speaking required and an absolute must;
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred; combination of college and work experience in a related field required;
3-5 years of planning experience or equivalent preferred, preferably with international import and sequential manufacturing scheduling experience; 
Excellent skills in math, data analysis and the use of personal computers to include Word, Excel and Access;
Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
