Position: Full-time
The NY Daily News is seeking a Front-end Designer/Developer to join its growing, tight-knit team.
Working closely with the Design Director the candidate will oversee the design, look and feel, and user experience of the Daily News web site and other properties.
The successful candidate be a stronger designer and will also be passionate about turning design files into pixel-perfect XHTML and CSS mark up, relying on Flash & Javascript libraries like jQuery to enhance the user experience.

Responsibilities & Requirements
•Can translate design files into interactive interfaces with hand-coded, semantic XHTML and CSS.
•Can write unobtrusive JavaScript by hand that utilizes libraries like jQuery.
•Is a team player. The successful candidate has excellent written and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced news environment.
•Adheres to Web standards, best practices, and accessibility and usability guidelines.
•Possesses proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Illustrator.
•Is interested in open-source Web application development.
•Has bachelor’s degree, plus at least two years of Design and front-end Web development experience
•Responsible for maintaining/templating our blogging platform (Moveable Type), you will be the support/point person for our Daily News Bloggers
•Develop special editorial sections and interactives
•Develop templates for the various sections of NYDailyNews.com
•Improving overall design and user experience of the site
•Designing banners and microsites for in-house promotions and for advertisers
•Innovating ways to solve challenging business and user experience problems
•Developing functional prototypes of web pages and web sites
•Staying abreast of emerging trends and technologies
•Working with an interdisciplinary team that includes other web designers, project managers, UI/UX/IA, front end developers, sales & marketing, and executive leadership.
•Knowledge of web video editing a plus
•Passionate about interactive design and all things Internet and social media
