The JETAANY 30th Anniversary Gala is a celebration of the JET Program’s many years of successful grassroots exchange and its positive impact on U.S.- Japan relations. The event is a chance for JET alumni and other attendees to engage in innovative educational and cultural activities that will promote understanding and friendship between the U.S. and Japan and strengthen our local networks.
This is a formal, inter-generational night of celebration. It is important because it presents an opportunity for us to come together and commemorate, for the first time ever on this scale in New York, the significance of this program, chapter, and our experiences.GALA FAQ - CLICK HERE AND ON EACH Q TO EXPAND
This is a formal, inter-generational night of celebration. It is important because it presents an opportunity for us to come together and commemorate, for the first time ever on this scale in New York, the significance of this program, chapter, and our experiences.
A: As one of the largest and most active alumni associations in America and the world, we thought the timing of the 30th anniversary of the JET program was perfect to host a special event to celebrate the strength of our community and the value it has brought to us all in our post-jet lives as well as to ongoing US-Japan relations. February 3rd is also Setsubun, a seasonal divider celebrated yearly in Japan the marks the start of Spring. We think the symbolism is fitting, and hope this will be an opportunity for us to reflect on JETAANY’s past and welcome luck as we look to the future.
A: Yes, but with speeches, activities and a giant sake barrel-breaking ceremony. Insteda of a sit-down dinner there will be a buffet and we would like people to mingle and hang out. There will be a cocktail hour at the beginning.
A: No, not at all. This event is not only for alumni, please invite your friends! It’s for all of our friends, community members, Japanese partners, and families! We encourage Japanese organizations to come
A: Unfortunately, they must be 21+ (if so, then please!)
A: Black tie optional.
A: It’s a once-in-a-lifetime (or decade?), large scale event with more formal speeches and shinier shoes. J
A: Yes, but we recommend coming and staying for the whole time (6-11pm) as there will be activities happening the entire night! We will kick off with a cocktail hour, followed by dinner (open bar) and formal presentations. The evening will feature a barrel-breaking ceremony, taiko performance, JET stories, a silent auction, and more!
A: We strongly recommend purchasing them now. There are just over 100 seats available and we cannot guarantee tickets will not sell out.
A: The Dumbo Loft (155 Water Street in Brooklyn), a unique and premier venue in the “Dumbo” area of Brooklyn. It is right under the Manhattan Bridge (so not far from Manhattan) and very accessible by public transportation, a three minute walk from the “F” line, six minute walk from the “A,C” lines, and 12 minute walk from the “2,3” lines. Here is the venue’s website if you want to see photos or learn more: dumboloft.com.
A: Yes! We will have a silent auction with (some cool!) prizes for you to win. With only 100+ guests, your chances are good, so stay tuned for details!
A: Yes! We would love your help! While we cannot offer free admission to volunteers, there are many opportunities to get involved and we love input. Feel free to contact the “Gala Gang” (and JETAANY Exec) via firstname.lastname@example.org.
A: If you have a question, chances are other people are wondering the same thing. Send your question to email@example.com and we’ll put the answer on this page.
We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, February 3rd!!
