Where: Breakneck Ridge (see below for itinerary and details on where to meet; hike info here)
Cost: $28 round-trip from Grand Central Terminal on the Metro North  (purchase ticket before meeting)
Questions/RSVP: via Facebook

What better way to enjoy fall foliage than a hike in the beautiful Hudson Valley!

Take in breathtaking Hudson River views from Breakneck Ridge. Breakneck was listed as one of the *top ten hikes in the United States* by none other than venerable outdoor sporting publication…Newsweek Magazine.

Afterwards we can enjoy some tasty food and drink in lovely Cold Spring, NY.

We’re leaving from Grand Central. A round trip MetroNorth ticket to Breakneck Ridge Trail station can be purchased at ticket machines there (or through MTA apps) for $28.

Anybody who wishes to drive can meet the group at Breakneck Ridge Trail starting point (there is a parking lot nearby) https://goo.gl/maps/nUNUWjpYMeG2

Note that the beginning portion of this trail is a scramble! We’ll be using both our feet and hands to climb some boulders (gotta earn those views from the top). We’ll help each other up this part of the trail, but the route may not be appropriate for small kids or those with mobility issues. Please wear sneakers or hiking boots! 3.6 miles round trip.

We’ll want to hit the trail shortly after hopping off the train. As we are taking the train directly to the Breakneck Ridge stop, there won’t be an opportunity to stop in town for food before the hike. Maybe bring snacks to share!

Feel free to bring any family or friends!

Here’s the plan:
9:30 am: Meet at Grand Central Station (at the clock) before 9:30. It will be a popular weekend for upstate excursions so we’ll do our best to get train seats together. If you get to Grand Central after 9:30 head straight for the train with your ticket. We will sit in the front of the train, as only the doors in the first two cars open at Breakneck Ridge station.

9:43 am: Depart Grand Central 8815 Metro North to Poughkeepsie. For anybody uptown: you can get on our same train at the 125th street Metro North stop at ~9:54 AM (Our train: https://goo.gl/maps/1BdHHCQkBKo)

11:29 am: Arrive at Breakneck Ridge station and head to trail head.

3:09 pm: There is a train from Breakneck to Cold Spring. We can also catch a lift to town with those driving, share ubers, or walk to town (2 miles). (Next train from Breakneck to Cold Spring is 4:13pm.)

~3:30 pm: Find a charming spot in Cold Spring to share post-hike a drinks and bites. Cold Springs native JET alum Catherine Khadabux recommends Hudson Hil’s https://www.yelp.com/biz/hudson-hils-market-and-café-cold-spring-2

5:16 pm: Possible return train from Cold Spring Station (There are trains every hour, with the next one at 6:18pm.) It is also possible to take the train directly back from Breakneck Ridge Trail if you don’t wish to come into town.

6:48 pm: Arrive back @ Grand Central
