A New Year Message from JETAANY

Dear JETAANY Members and Friends,

Akemashite omedetou gozaimasu!!  That is, happy new year!  On behalf our Board of Directors and Executive Committee, I would like to thank all of you for your participation in our events and support of our organization in 2010.  The year proved to be an eventful one, filled with cultural, social, and networking activities designed to benefit our diverse membership. In 2010 we organized over 35 events, not including our monthly Executive Officer meetings, quarterly Board of Directors meetings, and various other meetings and dinners with CLAIR NY and the Consulate General of Japan in New York.  We also held the US JETAA National Conference in midtown Manhattan in August.  This annual meeting is hosted by a different chapter each year and attended by two representatives of each of the 18 US Chapters.  A complete list of 2010 events is shown below to remind you of the good times we shared and give you a sense of the great events that you may have missed!

Most importantly, we embarked on a campaign to demonstrate the benefits of the JET Program to people around the world after government budget cuts in Japan threatened to end JET as we know it.  We successfully made an impression at some of the highest levels of government and the program will remain intact for the foreseeable future.  However, it is up to all of us to keep the campaign going, and to continue to demonstrate to the world the value of this grass-roots exchange.

As you may know, our JETAANY fiscal year and executive officer terms run from April 1 to March 31 each year.  I am looking forward to serving as President for the next three months and transitioning the organization to new leadership in April.  Please consider stepping up to join our team or help plan events.  We always welcome new members and contributors.

I wish all of you the very best in 2011, and hope to see you at an event soon!

Warmest Regards,

Megan Miller Yoo

President, JETAANY
