  • Dear JET Alumni, It’s that time of year again when we help to prepare newly selected JETs for their upcoming adventures in Japan.  We are looking for volunteers to help out with the Pre-Departure Seminar this year on SATURDAY, JUNE 20, 2009 at the Nippon Club in midtown.  If you are interested in leading any of the following small group discussions, please send an email with a brief outline of what you would cover for the specific topic to president@jetaany.org.  Also if you are interested in helping out in a non-presenting capacity, please let us know that as well.   • Thursday, May 28th, 6 pm As the JQ home office edges closer to the the layout finishing line for our next issue, we’ve set a date for our quarterly stuffin’ and mailin’.  RSVP to magazine@jetaany.org to ensure how much pizza/drinks to order. Besides getting your own advance copy of the new “Utada Issue” before they’re mailed out to our members, we’ll also be having an informal nomikai afterwards (location TBD). It all happens Thursday, May 28 from 6:00 p.m. at the Japan Local Government Center (JLGC), 3 Park Ave. (at 34th St.), 20th floor.  Chotto latecomers and friends of JET are also welcome.   • Special JET Alumni Quota for MEXT Scholarship The Consulate General of Japan in New York is pleased to announce that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport, Science and Technology (MEXT- Monbukagakusho) have set up a special quota available only for JET alumni to be the recipients of the 2010 MEXT Research Student Scholarship.  This is for graduate level research study in a Japanese university starting April 2010 for 24 months or starting October 2010 for 18 months.  Qualified recipients will have the possibility of extending their scholarship to complete a degree in Japan if successfully enrolled in a master’s course or doctoral course.
