Bring your friends, family, and children to enjoy the Sakura Matsuri at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. We will be gathering in the main Cherry Esplanade near the performance and food tent (same as last year). The JET banner will be on display. Bring: Blanket and snacks to share. Be a little creative when bringing food since it is not permitted at the garden. There is food for sale but the lines can be very long.
Dress Code (optional): It’s time to break out the kimonos, yukatas, hakama, and other japanese garments and gear. Prizes will be awarded for best Japanese dress.
With over 200 trees in bloom, Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s flowering cherries take center stage during this phenomenal weekend celebrating Japanese culture with over 60 events and performances. Enjoy traditional Japanese music and dance, taiko drumming, ikebana flower arranging, cooking demonstrations, tea ceremonies, craft demonstrations, and workshops for both adults and children. Free with Garden admission.
In case it rains we will not be picnicking. Please enjoy the cherry blossoms at your leisure. The festival activities will continue indoors.
