Friday, April 27th, 2007. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s first official visit to the U.S. As part of his visit, that afternoon at the Japanese Ambassador’s residence in DC he met with JETAA representatives from DC and around the country, including JETAA New York President Rob Tuck and Secretary Carol Elk. Also present was JETAANY member Linda Kim, invited because of her stay in Yamaguchi, Abe’s home prefecture. Abe gave a short speech highlighting the importance of 20 years of the JET Program in US-Japan relations, then, accompanied by his wife and Deputy Cabinet Secretary Shimomura Hakubun, met and spoke briefly with each of the assembled JETs and posed for individual photos afterwards.
